The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has one of the largest U.S. programs in power electronics and electric power systems, housed within a world-class academic department. More than 40 undergraduate students and 35 graduate students study and work in these fields each year. A team of six faculty members leads these activities. Research work emphasizes long-term innovations, with contributions that include power system stabilizers, unique nonlinear digital control methods for high-performance power converters, ripple correlation control techniques, multi-port power electronics, energy harvesting, advances for electric machines, design and analysis of hybrid and electric vehicles, and converters for alternative energy systems. The team welcomes fundamental challenges from industry, and encourages students at all levels to take on internship experiences
