In 2005 when nanotechnology was introduced at the PSMA board meeting the membership lacked interest in this disruptive technology, thinking it was unreal.  It was only through the foresight of the PSMA Executive Director, Joe Horzepa, that I continued to pursue the notion that PSMA have a Nanotechnology initiative.

During the 2007 PSMA Board meeting I gave a presentation  entitled “The Nano Frontier” which introduced the notion of designing power sources using nanotechnology, that is, the nano scale, between 1 nanometer (nm) to 100 nanometers (nm) . As a result, PSMA authorized a Special Project to develop an e-learning tutorial on nanotechnology to introduce the basics of the technology to its PSMA members.

A Nanotechnology Committee was established with Chuck Mullett and me as Co-Chairs. The Nanotechnology Form was added on PSMA web page. Our purpose was to educate the membership concerning the application of nanotechnology in the power sources industry and bring about the awareness that nanotechnology has arrived into world of application.

Our mission before us, in cooperation with Dr. J. Michael Rice, President of  Northrop Rice Advanced Instituted of Technology ( NRAIT) and Aerolearn its e-learning platform, we went on to provide Nano 100 a Nanotechnology tutorial for the membership in 2008 with an update in 2011 and Nano 200, an advanced tutorial, in 2013.  Also, in 2013 we completed Nano 300 Colloquium for college campuses world wide with cash awards for the best Nanotechnology Paper.

In parallel, we focused on bring nanotechnology education and awareness to APEC. In 2010 Chuck Mullett, Nanotechnology Committee Co-Chair, introduced the first Nanotechnology Industry Session at APEC and I, the  other Nanotechnology Committee Co-Chair, presented a Nanotechnology overview in the Plenary Session.  Our Nanotechnology Committee continued with PSMA Nanotechnology Industry Sessions in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.  At APEC 2013 we also had a Nanotechnology Plenary Session speaker and a Nanotechnology Professional Education Seminar.  Nanotechnology topics are now becoming an integral part within APEC sessions. This being the case, a separate Nanotechnology Industry Session was longer necessary.

Thus, we fulfilled our mission to bring Nanotechnology education and awareness to the PSMA membership, APEC and students world wide. Nanotechnology is now an integral part of PSMA Technical Forums. Mission Accomplished!

Introduction to the Nanotechnology Courses & Resources

Read “The PSMA Nanotechnology Story”, above, if you have not done so. It will help you understand why and how the Nanotechnology Courses & Resources came about.

All the material in the Nanotechnology Courses and Resources Section was originally for PSMA Members Only and not available to Non Members. However, through the courtesy of Northrop Rice Advanced Institute of Technology and in cooperation with PSMA, all the material in the Nanotechnology Courses & Resources Section under the Education Forum is available to PSMA Members and Non Members with free access at any time for your education and use. (Read more)

The Nano 100 and 200 Courses require login registration. With this registration, you will be able to print out of a certificate of completion for 3 Continued Units of Education with your name after you complete the course (this function may be deleted in the future).  Note that the content was designed for the PSMA Members Only. Some of the text refers to this, do ignore.  Nano 100 and 200 access is free to all and not behind the PSMA fire wall.  Also, once you begin the course you can stop and return at any time to continue or review. The Synopsis is a short overview of each course that you may wish to look at before starting Nano 100 and 200.

Nanotechnology Courses & Resources are not obsolete. Careful attention was given to include Nanotechnology core principles and technology which do not change and remain relevant. Though the examples used are still pertinent, others may be found in current nanotechnology application due to advances as the core principles are applied.  Newer applications can be found on the internet. Visit other nanotechnology sources to broaden your nanotechnology horizon

The APEC material is valid industry and education research. It should be reviewed as thought provoking for other nanotechnology applications. The starter books make a good foundation for understanding the principles of nanotechnology. 

No doubt you visited this section with an interest in nanotechnology. If you are an educator, incorporate nanotechnology into your course material.  If you are an engineering, design power systems with one nanometer parts. If you are a student, embrace nanotechnology for future growth. If you are a business manger, invest in nanotechnology research and application. Welcome to One Nanometer Technology!
